Doculabs Debriefs HHPN on their Third Party Evaluation of XLiRAD

San Diego, Ca.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 2000-- HHPN Development Corp,
HHPN today announced that it has been debriefed by Doculabs Inc. (http://www.doculabs.com/) in Chicago on the results of their third-party evaluation of HHPN's state-of-the-art software application, code named `XLiRAD', which was created to address the need for faster, lower-cost deployment of database integrated Web sites and the development of Web-based business applications for the Internet.

Doculabs held a debriefing session with the Company in the afternoon of Thursday, February 10, 2000. To summarize: the benchmark assessment demonstrated that XLiRAD has significant strengths relative to primary competitors, including market leader Cold Fusion, developed by Allaire (Nasdaq:ALLR - news). In particular, XLiRAD will likely require less skill to learn, and the DPPanacea user interface is extremely developer friendly. Also, in an unofficial measurement, Doculabs found XLiRAD development of the benchmark application to be about twice as fast as that of Allaire's Cold Fusion. These results support HHPN's claims that XLiRAD is easier to learn and easier to use, and that developers using DPPanacea can deploy database-integrated Web sites considerably faster than developers using Allaire's Cold Fusion.

Doculabs also had suggestions for enhancing the upcoming market launch of XLiRAD including: refinement of the sales presentation, automation of back-ups, and further configuration of security related to remote development. The developers confirmed that these suggestions will be implemented and should not affect timing of the product launch. Additionally, it has now been independently verified that applications developed with XLiRAD are platform independent and can be run on industry standard NT, UNIX and LINUX platforms without recoding, using a variety of databases, including SQL, Sybase and MYSQL (and any other JDBC compliant database such as Oracle (Nasdaq:ORCL - news)).

XLiRAD will run on any Web server including Apache, Microsoft's InformationServer (Nasdaq:MSFT - news), Netscape Server (Nasdaq:NSCP - news) or any other server that supports servlets, making XLiRAD one of the most flexible and user friendly Web development tools worldwide. Full details of Doculabs' benchmark assessment of XLiRAD will be documented in a report to be delivered by Doculabs in the near future.

An additional report, along with specific actionable recommendations, will be produced by software engineer, James Milbery, who was present at Doculabs' final evaluation. Mr. Milbery is a partner with Kuromaku Partners Inc. (http://www.kuromaku.com/) as well as an analyst and noted journalist in the industry.

Doculabs Inc. is a leading independent industry analyst firm providing eBusiness research and advisory services to the end-user and vendor communities. Doculabs' research in Web application server technology has been widely published, and includes analysis on products from market leaders such as Allaire, Microsoft, Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL - news), Sun-Netscape Alliance, Oracle, IBM (NYSE:IBM - news), Sybase (Nasdaq:SYBS - news), Silverstream, Haht, and Bluestone (Nasdaq:BLSW - news).

Doculabs has reviewed this press release in its entirety and has given the Company written confirmation that the release fairly represents their opinion of the product.

We have started the Doculabs® evaluation of our XLiRAD suite of development tools. This evaluation starts with building a site for a ficticious bicycle business using the tools we have developed. A certain set of predetermined criteria needs to be met in order for Doculabs® to identify our particular strengths in the ever-exanding internet development community. We are conducting a time trial study between XLiRAD, Cold Fusion and Visual Studio. The time study will take place at the Copernicus Training Facility. The purpose is to determine how much time can be saved using DBPancea compared to Cold Fusion and Visual Studio.

Speed Test Results

Date: November 20, 1999
Venue: Copernicus Software Training Center
Objective: Determine if there is an obvious speed advantage given to web developers using XLiRAD.
Time limit: Five hours
Participating developers: An experienced independant programmer for each application was contracted to participate in the test, representing Cold Fusion, InterDev and XLiRAD. (Bios of participants will be posted here soon).
Summary Results: InterDev: Partially completed test in 5 hours Cold Fusion: Completed test in 2.5 hours XLiRAD: Completed test in 37 minutes

XLiRAD Challenge Criteria

The following outlines the specifications of the XLiRAD Challenge. We are striving to obtain unbiased test results that truly reflect the time required to develop web applications using various popular web development tools.

The test parameters are as follows:

  1. The test will be conducted at and monitored by the Copernicus Training Facility, San Diego, Ca.
  2. All participants will be informed of the desired functionality ahead of time. This way they can formulate their development strategy ahead of time.
  3. All participants will pre-setup their database before the test.
  4. All participants will install their client tools on the machines provided or bring their own preconfigured systems.
  5. All participants will begin the assignment when instructed to do so by the Copernicus representative.
  6. Inform the Copernicus representative when your done, to have the results verified.
  7. You must sign a claim to certify that you did not cheat in any way by having pre-made functionality to include in the test.

The functionality to complete is as follows:

A) Simple Database Interactivity

  1. Add, Change and Delete functionality to a Contact Info table. The Contact Info table will consist of a unique contact info number, name, address, address 2, city, state, zip, phone number and company name.
  2. A search page with 3 search criteria. Name, Company Name, Phone Number. The search page will return a page with the matches. Each row will contain a link to edit that row.
  3. A general report listing that shows all the rows in the Contact Info table. If the number rows returned is greater than 5 rows, then paging logic should kick in, allowing the user to page thru the results with next/prev links/buttons.
  4. All of the functionality described above should work and display using a web browser only. The participants can pre-setup a web server to accomplish this.

B) Extra Functionality [Complete if time permitting as much as possible.][Accomplish in any way possible.]

  1. Security: Secure the pages from part A) such that the Edit,Change,Delete,View, and Search pages are realmed off by username and password. Username and password should be persistent, if possible, to prevent re-entering it each time the administrator wishes to see these pages.
  2. Form validation: Secure the entry data from the add and edit forms from part A) such that all fields except “Address 2 . are mandatory.

C) Extra Functionality Part 2 [Complete if time permitting as much as possible.][Accomplish in any way possible.]

  1. Email: Add an entry box to the add contact page that accepts an email address from the new contact. Send that new contact a confirmation email after a successful registration. Do not worry about changing the database table to accept the new field. Just use the entry box to get the address for sending the email, create a short, generic response email, and send it in real-time to the contact. [We can validate this with a known email address that we can check during or after the test.]
  2. Generic Cookies: Create a page that allows the user to enter a name and a value for a cookie in a form. Have the response page to the form set that cookie on the user .s browser. Create another form that allows the user to enter the name of a cookie, or “all . for all of them. The response page to this form should merely display to name and value of the cookie chosen, or all of the cookies if “all . is selected.
